Just getting started....

Sometimes (most times)  I find just getting started the hardest part of a project.  For the month of October I am doing an Art Book Worshop with Roxanne of Rivergarden Studio .... no time for procrastination,,,,,although there has been quite a bit of dithering about themes etc. (I am hopeless).

What I needed was some inspiration..... I decided upon the theme of spring as I am really enjoying the arrival of spring this year (and it was a prompt from Roxanne, that always helps).

Inspiration...papers and some eco dyed silk.  Delicate seed pods from my Japanese maple; new growth from the silver birch; beautiful, bright blossom buds from our apple tree; a beautiful, mysterious, dark  Helebores bloom.  I will press a few for my art book,  and also sketch a couple I think.  You can click on all photo's for a closer look.

The art book has been prepped in readiness...

I made a start on a journal page...an old paper bag that I was using for prepping my paper, overlayed with an old tea bag...gives some colour.  Some hand stitching with a soft, spring coloured variegated thread that is hand dyed by a local artisan.  The seed pods from the Japanese Maple.  I have no double that some fabric will find its ways into this book .....

I've made a start though.... A good start I think....  I'm happy.

A good start indeed....Inspiration abounds! The Helebore bloom is amazing isn't it?! Keep moving (the start is always the most daunting)... I think the art book you create will be a springboard to many more.

Another great work in progress Jacky, I love the shape of the book and the fabric looks so delicate, very spring like, looking forward to seeing the finished project.

Sometimes the only thing to do is just leap in and get going!

We should do a project together some time Jacky, I am brilliant at starting and hopeless at finishing! Must say, I am loving your start though, so peculiar to think it is almost Spring where you are, whilst us Brits are preparing for Winter!

Hi Jacky. That's looking like a great start to your project. I tend to faff around trying to begin too. Thanks for your kind comments on my last blog. Always lovely to hear from you. Exhiition all over now so the quilt is down and waiting to be hung on my friend's wall. It was lovely being able to spend a bit more time with it and it's given me a real boost to keep going. Hopw all well and you are enjoying the spring weather. We are getting gales at the moment. Very tedious! Take care Philippa

I really like your journal page Jacky...it works beautifully!
I love using variegated thread on my collages - the one you've used is particularly pretty. xx

Oh Jacky, I love seeing your work here, and hearing about what you think! And spring is such a beautiful theme. I have not seen a Helebores flower before, and it is dark and mysterious. i will be excited to see your sketches, and how they press.
I hope you enjoy Week Two as much as last week, I know I will!
Also your quote is perfect at the end.

and I'm with Hoola - great at starting, shitty at finishing. It's interesting to read the Australian blogs and feel such an 'opposite' sense of season! I'll be some cloth finds its way into that book, too!!
