Journalling......

Now for something different !!!! After visiting Keron's blog I have decided to have a go at a journal challenge being hosted by Sarah Whitmire. I am a bit of a late starter but figure I will get caught up to everyone else over the weekend. This is my first two pages (prompt 1 & 2). Visit Sarahs blog to see what the challenge requires if you like, looks like fun ! Join in.... like me you've got the weekend to catch up! Part of the second prompt was to colour your front page.... showing that you "own" the book. What fun! I really felt like I was back at school, scribbling in my folder - name on everything! Doodling here and there...
Very different to what I usually do, but really enjoying the challenge of letting go a little bit (I think I'm a bit of a control freak).

Another "challenge" for me at the moment is painting faces.... Misty Mawn style. I'm afraid I have not been practicing enough, mainly because I am not happy with my results. Rather than keep trying I have been procrastinating again and hiding away my attempts. Well here is the last attempt (obviously a work in progress). Mmmmm I dont know what I am doing wrong, but maybe trying to get things too lifelike (which I obviously cant do). I dont know what is going on with the eyes on this one either, she definately has a very oriental look which was unintentional and I am not sure that I like it. Maybe another paint over job.... it will be layer upon layer upon layer by the time I'm finished.
My intention is to overlay some collage papers/napkins along the bottom (thus the arm sitting in midair). I will keep playing around....

Stay tuned for more of the journal and visit Sarah's blog if you want to see what other people have done too.

This weekend I intend to challenge myself with the above two projects!

Happy Arting.........

these links are great and I wish you so much creative success with your journal I have always coveted drawing/painting skills but never been confident that I posess any. I keep telling myself thst when I have time I am going to create a painted/drawn/collaged design sheet. it will probably begin in around 20 years!!

love the start to your journal. your doodling is perfect. also, your face painting (although maybe not exactly what you intended) is quite nice. i would love to be able to create what you have right there! keep practicing as I think you are very good at it.

I think your face painting looks fantastic Jacky. I got an el cheapo sketch book and spend ages sketching away in it, drawing face after face. It is so much fun and I don't have to worry how they look because they aren't on a finished piece.
Having a go at the art journals, sounds like fun!

Hi there Jacky

I have really enjoyed this post and catching up with your wonderful art. Love what you have done so far with your journal. You have such beautiful writing and I think you will grow as an artist as you create each page. Am so proud of how your art is evolving.

And Jacky your painting is stunning! I love what you have done (the hand looks wonderful too). I am so impressed by how you paint faces. My talented and very special friend.

Great to see you today by the way. Sorry I wasn't the best company with my tooth ache! You are a very good friend.

Happy journalling! It's the one thing I can't sustain for too long :)))

You're spot on about the face--it's too "perfect" so it comes across as lifeless. Don't give up.

Your pages are great Jacky! Now I am inspired to get back to my journal....if I can find it. That will be my project for the weekend. Thanks!

The last part of my comment (above) should read: I still have to stop myself from trying to draw "perfectly"; imagine having to practise drawing imperfectly!!!

So nice to see you giving some of the control and allowing yourself to play in the journal. It looks great. And I can't wait to see what you do with the painting. It looks good so far. I am amazed by the hand. That's so difficult to paint. xo
